Karl looks tense as he returns to Australia with new wife Jasmine
Karl Stefanovic has "stepped off" Nine's troubled Today show, which he has co-hosted for 14 years. On Wednesday, network bosses phoned the Gold Logie winner in Aspen - where he is honeymooning with his new wife - to finalise his departure. It comes one day after his brother Peter, co-host of Weekend Today , learned his contract had not been renewed. He is believed to have at least one year left on his multimillion-dollar contract, but his long-term future with the network is uncertain. Today 's entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins and newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys, who is married to Peter, will remain with Nine - but their on-air roles may change. Sources claim the network could no longer tolerate Today 's declining ratings - which were not helped by a stream of negative media reports about its biggest star. In , Stefanovic split with Cassandra Thorburn, his wife of 21 years and mother of their three children.
The year-old looked tense as he wheeled his luggage through Sydney Airport on Dec. But, as Karl took notice of incoming photographers his demeanour quickly changed to project an unfazed smile. Jasmine wore minimal makeup for the long journey home and swept her blonde hair back into a bun. I can't thank Nine enough for the opportunity. It's been a tough time. Thanks for hanging in there. I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great network soon.
Stefanovic is the host of Nine Network 's show This Time Next Year and was co-host of Today , the Nine Network 's breakfast program, with Georgie Gardner for almost 14 years until it was announced in December that he will not be returning to the role as co-host in Stefanovic studied journalism at university, but after earning his degree could not secure a cadetship.
